Thanksgiving, the day that many eat turkey with their loved ones and spend their day being grateful, turns out to be than just food. It’s a time to remember the day when the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth in 1620. The Pilgrims wanted to find new land and instead found new people. Thesenew people they encountered were Native Americans, and they were very different from the Pilgrims. The Native Americans were grouped into tribes and they all represented the area they lived in.
During the harvest season both the Native Americans and Pilgrims came together and helped each other out. This was very important because it showed how two completely different groups could come together for a good cause. The hard work paid off and it was then time for them to celebrate. The first Thanksgiving feast was held during fall of 1621. It was there that the Native Americans and Pilgrims came together to celebrate a successful harvest.
About 90 local Wampanoag Tribe members joined, including Chief Massasoit, in celebration. They ate fowl, deer, also berries, fish, clams, plums, and of course boiled pumpkin.
Knowing this, you can go home with new facts about Thanksgiving. It can even be the topic during your Thanksgiving feast.
