About the Woodside World
The Woodside World: The Voice of the Wildcats
We, the Woodside World staff members of various ages, interests, and personalities, make it our mission to speak on behalf of all students by showing the spirit and diversity of Woodside High School and the surrounding community.
Through exploration of the world around us, we examine issues in our community in order to present them from a variety of perspectives.
We strive to provide opportunities for public discussion and give a voice to individuals by reporting the unbiased truth about relevant events and issues in our community and beyond.
The Woodside World is the multimedia news source of Woodside High school and its community. It is produced by the students in Woodside’s Digital Journalism class and they describe it below:
Digital Journalism students create the Woodside World online newspaper. Students are encouraged to follow their interests in the context of producing an interesting, quality paper that acts as a voice for Woodside High School students. Digital Journalists pride themselves on the wide-ranging skills and styles of themselves and their classmates. The Woodside World staff strives to produce quality writing and reporting, to maintain www.woodsideworld.com, and to give a voice to the diverse student body at WHS.

Here in Digital Journalism, we write for and create Woodside’s newspaper. Everything that we do is digital, meaning that we do not have a printed paper. The class is mostly student-run, with Mr. Cirincione acting as more of an advisor rather than a teacher. For each round of stories that we produce, we get to choose our own topics and make the decisions about how our story will look. The amount of freedom in this class is great and we get an idea of how a professional newspaper may be run.
Out of all the classes at Woodside, I believe that this one is the most realistic in the sense that we have more responsibilities, and it is more like a job rather than a class.

Digital Journalism makes me feel empowered and informative. Contributing to the paper, gives me a sense of accomplishment. Knowing that what I have to write about is important not only to me, but to the public is another reason why I enjoy writing for the paper. It allows me to give a voice to those who don’t have one or can’t have one.

Digital Journalism is not a “traditional” class, instead the class is run by the students. We choose the agenda for the day and the best thing: no prompts. We choose what we find fascinating to write about. It’s a great experience, you can write what you want, talk to interesting people and refine you writing skills!
